Be part of Stewart Island's biggest event.
The Rakiura Challenge organising committee is made up of experienced event organisers, but they also rely on support from volunteers and marshals in the lead-up to the event and on race day.
We cover your costs. If you're selected, race organisers cover the volunteer programme, including travel to and from Stewart Island, accommodation and food.
What volunteers do
Registration
Registering runners and checking compulsory gear.
Race packs
Filling race packs before the event.
Start and finish
Setting up and dismantling the start and finish areas.
Track checkpoints
Staffing checkpoints around the Rakiura Track. A current first aid certificate is required.
Township checkpoints
Helping with checkpoints around the township, including traffic management.
Race HQ
Setting up and dismantling Race HQ, the volunteer centre and the community centre.
