Land of the glowing skies

Rakiura, the Māori name for Stewart Island, translates as 'land of the glowing skies'. It is home to lush native bush, spectacularly rugged coastlines, abundant bird and sea life, and one of New Zealand's famous Great Walks.

The Rakiura Track spans from one coast of Stewart Island to the other, making it one of the most varied and diverse trails in New Zealand.
